USM Regents Committee on Education Policy to Meet September 16
Adelphi, Md. (Sept.
10, 2010) - The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents Committee on Education
Policy at its next meeting will hear several information items,
including institutional reports on progress in closing the achievement gap.
The public session is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday,
September 16, in the President's Board Room, 14th floor of the
Saratoga Office Building at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. The building
is located at 220 North Arch Street, Baltimore, MD 21201.
The USM initiative to close the achievement gap addresses
the threat posed by the state's gap in college retention and degree completion
for lower income and under-represented students. As part of the initiative, USM
Chancellor William Kirwan asked the USM's 10 undergraduate degree-granting
institutions to develop achievement gap strategies that include data analysis
and specific institutional goals and timelines.
Other discussion items before the committee include a report
on the general education component of academic programs and a status report on
the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown.
Background information and agendas will be available at the
meeting. Sign language interpreters and/or other appropriate accommodations for
eligible individuals with disabilities will be provided upon request. Please
call 301.445.2756 (voice) or 301.314.7683 (TTY/ITT) for special arrangements.
