USM Schools Named "Best Values in Public Colleges" by Kiplinger's Personal Finance

Adelphi, Md. (Jan. 6, 2010) - Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine has named several University System of Maryland (USM) institutions to its list of "100 Best Values in Public Colleges" for 2010. The magazine notes that the campuses it selects "are noteworthy for their combination of top-flight academics and affordable costs."

The USM schools honored are the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP), Salisbury University, the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and Towson University.

UMCP ranked 8th on the 2010 list, moving from 9th in 2009 and 28th in 2008. Kiplinger's noted that UMCP, "known for its engineering, journalism and computer-science programs... has risen to the top by keeping in-state costs virtually unchanged while improving on quality, especially in its graduation rates."

The magazine ranked Salisbury University 59th on the list, UMBC 93rd and Towson University 97th. The "100 Best Values in Public Colleges" coverage from Kiplinger's can be read at http://www.kiplinger.com/magazine/archives/best-values-in-public-colleges-200910.html
