Three USM Board of Regents Committees to Meet on June 7

Adelphi, Md. (June 5, 2018) – Three committees of the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will meet on Thursday, June 7. The meetings will be held in the multi-purpose room of the Columbus Center, 701 E. Pratt Street, Baltimore.

The Committee on Organization and Compensation will meet at 8:30 a.m. and discuss two items: a status report on the work plan on executive compensation and governance and the annual report on Board of Regents policy reviews. The committee will vote on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items specifically exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act.

The reasons for closing are to maintain confidentiality regarding collective bargaining negotiations and individual personnel issues.

The Committee on Finance will meet at 10:30 a.m. and take a public vote on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items specifically exempted from public consideration under the Open Meetings Act. In closed session, the committee would discuss the acquisition of several properties by purchase or lease; the awarding of several advertising services contracts; and the proposed fiscal year (FY) 2020 capital budget submission and potential adjustments to the submission.

The public session is scheduled to resume at 11:30 a.m. Action items include the FY 2019 USM-funded construction program request; the FY 2019 USM operating budget; and an amendment to Policy VIII-2.50 on student tuition, fees, and charges.

The Committee on Economic Development and Technology Commercialization will meet at 12:20 p.m. and hear an informational presentation from Dennis Underwood, founder of CyberCrucible. The company, based at bwtech@umbc, was named 2018 “Cyber Company to Watch” by the Cybersecurity Association of Maryland (CAMI). The company offers both rapid detection and remediation of cyber-attacks in near real time using a highly automated process.
