USM Chancellor Caret Statement on Passing of Former Board of Regents Chair Cliff Kendall
Adelphi, MD (March 29, 2018) -- It was with deep sadness that I learned last night of the passing of former Board of Regents Chair Cliff Kendall.
A graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, Cliff was a true and lifelong friend not only to his alma mater, but also to the entire University System of Maryland (USM). Over the years, he and his wife, Camille, contributed millions of dollars to fund initiatives – from student scholarships to the establishment of The Universities at Shady Grove – that made higher education for Maryland students more affordable and accessible. Tens of thousands of USM students have already benefited from his generosity and stewardship, and his legacy will live on for generations to come.
On a personal note, I first met Cliff in 1995, after many years in academic leadership positions at Towson University and well before returning to Maryland as President of Towson University in 2003. Beyond his achievements as a business and civic leader or his role guiding the expansion of educational opportunities in Maryland, Cliff was a truly good, humane and gracious man, which is how his many friends will remember him.
Please join me in celebrating the life of Cliff Kendall, a wonderful leader, colleague and friend.
Sincerely,
Robert L. Caret
Chancellor
