Decision to Leave the Presidency

ADELPHI, Md. (August 10, 2005) — "Calvin W. Lowe, president of Bowie State University, today announced that he will leave the presidency of Bowie State University at the end of the 2005-06 academic year. Bowie State University is one of the 13 institutions comprising the University System of Maryland.

"On behalf of the University System of Maryland, I express my deep gratitude to President Lowe for his more than five years of dedicated service. His leadership and commitment to quality have positioned Bowie State University to attain even higher levels of responsiveness as it meets the needs of its growing student body and of the surrounding community.

"Also under President Lowe's leadership, Bowie State University has enhanced its facilities significantly and advanced the use of technology for its campus community and organizational partners.

"I am pleased that Bowie State is poised to play a critical role in helping the University System of Maryland meet its burgeoning enrollment demand during the next several years."

"I have appreciated the opportunity to work with President Lowe.

"The University System of Maryland Board of Regents and I will work closely with the Bowie State University community on a smooth transition to a new leader who can build on the foundation laid by President Lowe."
